A multi-discipline arcade racing game built on fully simulated vehicle physics that's been tuned for an arcade experience that feels authentic.

This is an early demo of a work in progress arcade racing game to gather feedback on the vehicle physics. The goal of this project is to have vehicle physics that feel realistic but are tuned to be casual enough to easily play on a keyboard.

This demo includes:

  • 17 Challenges covering the variety of racing experiences currently available.
  • Race against up to 9 AI opponents, with 4 difficulty settings.
  • 95 vehicles including street, muscle, sports, rally, grand touring, trucks, electric, supercars and full race cars.
  • 8 different locations with a total of 20 different circuits, including race circuits, ovals, dirt tracks, rally, and a mountain road.
  • Customize vehicles with engine upgrades, different suspensions and tire compounds, spoilers, rims, and paint colors.

The vehicle physics for this project are available at: https://github.com/DAShoe1/Godot-Easy-Vehicle-Physics

hey dude, this is my favourite godot game, its better than gdsim, I really wanna get into contact with you, maybe on discord?

I wanna ask questions and maybe we can be friends, I am making my own godot racing game aswell.

sorry for the annoying comment.

I've finally got around to setting up a Discord for the project, https://discord.gg/QCtfymc43N

Hey, looks amazing! I'm trying to set up my logitech G29 to play it on linux, but I'm not having much success. Do you have any tips on how I could set it up?

Thanks. I haven't tried playing it on a wheel, but there are input remaps labeled 'Full Axis' for throttle and brake that are meant for wheels that I hope work.

(+1)

okay, I'll give it a try and if successful I'll post a guide

My dude, the core game is just perfect, if you add more tracks, improved ui, soundFX, chill music and most importantly a GT4-like story progression I would buy on steam/itch.io without thinking twice.

(You probably know this) Although, I am not really sure cars manufacturers would be happy with the car models present in the tech demo, I would suggest going a GTA/beamng approach, I wouldn’t like to see a good idea like this one being ruined by big corporations.

Thanks, it really means a lot! Still a lot of work to do, but this is the part I wanted to nail.

(+2)

Do you have plans for Android version?

(+1)

I don't currently have plans and I'm not sure it would run well on a mobile platform without a lot of optimizations. I will look into it at some point just out of curiosity though.

the bmw m3 gtr being called "blacklist" is a great reference

but god, the audio, the physics, the ai, its so so good, you have a very good base here dude. dont waste it.

I am actually kinda jelly.

(+1)

Thanks! It really means a lot.

I really like the artstyle of the maps, giving off major art of rally vibes, well made game!

The specs for most cars are really inaccurate however, it doesn't make much sense to me that something similar to a BMW M4 has close to 800 hp while the Audi R8 has its IRL 550 hp

Thanks for checking it out! Most of the cars should be closely related to real world cars, although they are not exact for a reason. The discrepancy you point out is probably the car called 'Asphalt' which is one of the few cars that isn't based on real world data. I built that car as an example of a drift car. I plan to categorize cars once I nail down the format for a campaign/career mode. I do appreciate the feedback and if you feel any other cars misrepresent what you might expect feel free to point it out.

(+1)

Yea I was already thinking that this might be a design decision, I will dig through all the other cars and let you know if I find more inaccuracies!

Ambar: 3273.86 lbs.

Arrow: 571 hp, 479 ft-lb, 3571.49 lbs.

Arizona: 400hp, couldn't find torque data but likely ~330 ft-lb, weight is 2844 lbs

Berlin: looks like an R8 LMS, so 585 hp, 405 ft-lb and 2700.66 lbs.

Betty: 282 hp, 322 ft-lb, 3428.19 lbs.

Blacklist: 387 hp, 287 ft-lb and no weight data

Boss: 380hp, 450 ft-lb, 3870 lb

Bremen: 221 ft-lb, 3461.26 lbs. assuming it's the E60 530i

Really promising project! Good graphics, different camera views, lots of tracks and cars to choose from! Really looking forward to playing this more! Congrats to the dev! (And they even open sourced their vehicle physics, amazing!)

Thanks for checking it out. I loved the VR injection you did! I need to keep the scope of this project down, but when it's near final I'll look into doing a VR version.

(+2)

Yeah it's a great idea to get the regular version nailed down first, the injector almost works perfectly as is with hood cam. I was just playing again this morning and I know a winning formula when I go into a game "just to test it" and wind up racing several races with different cars. Great work again!
